Gabriela Fernández-Cuervo

Graduate Research Assistant, Pharmaceutical Sciences – Drug Discovery and Development, College of Pharmacy
Degree(s):
  • University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras (2011) – BS, Chemistry.
  • Emory University (2012) – NIH Post-Baccalaureate Fellowship.
  • Emory University (2013) – Laboratory Research Assistant.
Research Interest:

Gaby’s research is focused on the development of enzyme responsive contrast agents to reshape targeted therapies into a choice of tailored chemotherapy treatment. A second area of her research interests relates to the use of CEST MRI to develop a probe for reporter gene imaging to aid interrogate gene expression in pre-clinical studies.

Overall, Gaby’s projects are highly multidisciplinary and her skills and knowledge include:
- drug discovery and development
- medicinal organic chemistry
- molecular imaging
- chemical exchange saturation transfer (CEST) MRI
- responsive imaging probe development
- in vitro and in vivo imaging
- molecular and cell biology
